Bloor West Village is a walkable shopping-and-residential district in Toronto's west end, known for its independent shops along Bloor Street and its strong Ukrainian cultural heritage.
It centres on Bloor Street West between roughly South Kingsway and Ellis Park Road, with residential streets to the north; the City designates it Runnymede-Bloor West Village, with High Park North to the east and Swansea to the south.
In 1970 local merchants formed what is recognized as the world's first Business Improvement Area, banding together to compete with suburban malls after the Bloor-Danforth subway opened in 1966; the model later spread across Toronto and beyond.
The strip has a lively main-street character and hosts community festivals through the year, including a Ukrainian Festival each September.
The surrounding residential area is made up largely of detached and semi-detached houses on tree-lined streets north of Bloor.
Bloor Street West forms the commercial spine, with more than 400 shops, restaurants and services including specialty food stores, bookshops and cafes.
High Park, the largest park near downtown Toronto, lies a short distance east, with additional green space along the Humber River valley.
The area is served by the Toronto District School Board, with Humberside Collegiate Institute among the nearby secondary schools.
Line 2 Bloor-Danforth runs beneath Bloor Street with Runnymede and Jane stations serving the village, along with north-south bus routes.
The Runnymede branch of the Toronto Public Library, opened in 1930, serves the neighbourhood.
May suit families and professionals wanting a walkable main-street lifestyle with subway access and proximity to High Park.

Budget for Ontario's land transfer tax on top of the price; purchases in the City of Toronto also pay a separate municipal land transfer tax. First-time buyers may qualify for refunds on both.

Generally not right now. Since January 1, 2023, the federal Prohibition on the Purchase of Residential Property by Non-Canadians Act has barred most non-Canadians from buying residential property, with exceptions such as permanent residents and some work-permit holders. The ban has been extended before, so confirm its current status and get legal advice on your situation.
