Whalley is Surrey's City Centre and downtown, the densest town centre south of the Fraser River, with high-rise towers, rapid transit and major civic and post-secondary institutions.
Location & boundaries
In north-central Surrey along King George Boulevard near the Fraser River, bordering Guildford to the east, Newton to the southeast and, across the river, New Westminster and Burnaby to the north.
History
Settlement began in the 1880s; Arthur Whalley opened a service station and general store in 1925 near King George Boulevard, the community adopted the name Whalley in 1948, and Metro Vancouver designated it a regional town centre in 1976.
