Living in Fairview
Fairview is a dense, mixed residential and commercial neighbourhood on the south shore of False Creek, tiered up a slope toward Broadway. Low-rise apartments, the South Granville shopping and gallery district, and the Broadway office and medical corridor define it.
Location & boundaries
It sits between False Creek to the north and roughly 16th Avenue to the south, with Cambie to the east and Kitsilano to the west; downtown lies across the water to the north.
History
Named 'Fairview' by a CPR surveyor in 1887 for its views, it was one of Vancouver's first residential suburbs, developing after the 1890s streetcar (the Fairview Beltline along Broadway) and the opening of the Granville and Cambie bridges. It was zoned for low-rise apartments from the 1920s onward.

Detached houses make up under 20% of the stock; the neighbourhood is mostly low-rise (about four-storey) apartments plus condos and townhouses stepping up the hillside, many with False Creek and downtown views.
