Squamish is a district municipality of 23,819 people (2021 census) at the head of Howe Sound, on the Sea to Sky Highway (Highway 99) between Vancouver and Whistler. The Squamish people have lived in the area for thousands of years, and the modern town grew up in the 1910s as the first southern terminus of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, with forestry and the port as its traditional industries.
Today it's best known as an outdoor town. The Stawamus Chief, a granite massif with more than 300 climbing routes and steep hiking trails to its three summits, rises right beside the highway, and an extensive trail network surrounds the town for mountain biking and trail running. Capilano University runs a campus in Squamish.
Downtown Squamish and the areas near it have most of the town's condos and newer townhomes. North of downtown, Garibaldi Highlands and Garibaldi Estates are established family neighbourhoods, and Brackendale, further north along the Squamish River, is quieter and more rural. Valleycliffe sits south of downtown beneath the Chief. Brackendale, Garibaldi Highlands and Valleycliffe each have their own elementary school.

Generally not right now. Since January 1, 2023, the federal Prohibition on the Purchase of Residential Property by Non-Canadians Act has barred most non-Canadians from buying residential property, with exceptions such as permanent residents and some work-permit holders. The ban has been extended before, so confirm its current status and get legal advice on your situation.
